Haircut

The fountain in the centre of the village has been 'renovated' and the water supply changed from fresh water to a continuous loop, a tiny water-saving gesture by the mairie apparently to justify the building of many new houses whose occupants will use far more water than those in the old houses. It won't be a popular move with cyclists, huge groups of whom stop here to fill up their water bottles on their weekend rides. The municipal workers chipped off all the vegetation and a lot of the stone work too, it seems, leaving the poor fountain looking as though it has suffered a bad haircut. It will all grow back eventually.
