The fool on the hill

Bit of a flap

I'm already missing my satnav. A village in Avon or Somerset (that I don't know the name of because I always drove through it under the influence of satnav) was blocked in the high street today so I turned down a country lane and spent the next half hour looking for signposts - the ones which Churchill had taken down to prevent Germans without satnavs finding Mr Mainwaring's office and which Churchill forgot to put back up again. I found my destination eventually by following the earth's magnetic rays just like Lapwings do on their epic annual migration from the cabbage fields of Stalingrad to this lake in Avon or Somerset.

God (if he (or she) exists) bless the great Gerry Rafferty. An undervalued and talented man who had a healthy distrust of the record industry and unhealthy kidneys.
