Midi Libre

At the end of a cold morning's work fetching a trailer load of horse manure and spreading it on part of the garden,* I came back to the village and saw this as I walked to the shop. It's an advert for the local paper above the entrance to the boulangerie and the newspaper was so named to celebrate the liberation at the end of the Second World War, but the bright red statement against the tiled roof and the evergreen Mediterranean trees - olive, pines - and the clear blue sky seemed to symbolise the spirit of the Midi to me this morning.

* OK, I'll be honest, Lo Jardinièr did the hard work, the lifting and carrying, but I helped!
