Monday 7 February 2011: The Nuggets
Late in the afternoon we took a visit to the Nuggets Lighthouse in the Catlins.
The light shone in this Lighthouse for the first time in 1870, and could be seen for 18 kilometers out to sea. There had been a lot of shipping casualties in the area.
After an evening and night of torrential rain, the day was not bad and by the time we went to this area the sun came out from behind the clouds.
The rivers in the area have been so full and swollen, with large trees and branches floating down them and entering the sea with its dirty brown water. The low lying paddocks are ponds of water, and hopefully will drain away over the next few days.
Thanks for all the comments I have had, and I hope to catch up with everyone at a later date.
