The Dreaming Spires of Aberdeen

After a rather fraught drive north yesterday, starting in a blizzard of sleet in Edinburgh, navigating roads of slushy snow between Stonehaven and Banchory, and encountering a further snow blizzard on the outskirts of Ballater, we made it our waiting hosts, and a warrm welcome.

The countryside on the route north was beautiful with the fir trees laced with snow, the forests standing dark against their white background and last year's dun coloured cornfields dusted as if with icing sugar

The men decided that today was to be a visit to Aberdeen and the Gordon Highlanders Museum.
The ladies were left to their own devices in the city centre and we had time to browse and chat. No purchases were made (green beans and bananas absolutely don't count) and the time flew by.

I pleaded to be taken to the shore for a blip, and we finished up outside the Beach Ballroom on the Esplanade. This has memories of another time in what seems like another life when we braved gale force winds to witness daughter# 1's graduation from Gray's School of Art. Today however there was no wind and the sea was as calm as a millpond.

Perversely though, I have chosen to publish a blip of the frontage of this distinctly commanding and ornate building just off Union Street in the City Centre.
I think it is the St Nicholas Cathedral, but with restoration work in progress on it, there was no signage.
Perhaps some Aberdonian blipper will put me right.

EDIT: Dorriffy tells me it is Marishal College, and is being renovated for Aberdeen City Council.
I stand corrected.
