The Edge of the Wold

Misty Hope

The snow came back today. The North of England was coated with it, and here in Huddersfield about 2 inches fell.

We headed south to Sheffield and then to Dore where we caught the train through the second longest railway tunnel in Britain to the Hope Valley in the Peak District. This line was built in the 1890s to connect Sheffield and Manchester. We got off at Grindleford. Note that Dr T is a steam buff, so many of the activities he organises have a railway theme.

We stopped for tea and cakes at the Grindleford cafe, then went for a walk along the valley to Hathersage. This photo was taken on the way out where the path comes through a ruined wall. The snow had already mostly disappeared from the lower ground by this time in the afternoon, leaving a thick mist.

I've resisted blipping various railway tunnels, signal boxes, semaphore signals and station platforms.

Back in Huddersfield and Dr T is exercising his culinary skills in the kitchen as I type this while a soundtrack plays of steam trains on the Great Western Railways. Now if there had been a steam train today. I might have blipped that.
