Fool's Mate

The black king and the white king
Found themselves alone;
Their cronies all had left the board today.
Said Black King to the white king,
"We've battled long and hard;
Only a fool would really want to stay."

"I like it here," White King replied,
"And while we're on our own,
Why don't we have a little game of chess?"
The black king laughed, and soon agreed,
"We've nothing much to lose,"
And so he answered firmly with a Yes!

They fetched a tiny chess board,
Set up their little men.
The kings were in a quite excited state.
But two moves each into the game,
White proved himself a fool,
As Black declared he'd won, with Fool's Checkmate!

Not only another glimpse into the lives of the chessmen, but also a response on April Fool's Day to missymoo's challenge.

Earlier adventures of the chessmen appear here and here.
