Snow Palm Valley

As you may know, bluesheep challenged me to find "moonlit palms swaying in the breeze".... in Alaska.

Although this took considerable research and effort, I was able to locate the little know and long lost Snow Palm Valley.

History records that many years ago during the Klondike gold rush a Hawaiian lost his way beyond Chilcoot pass, north of Skagway. Although there was an exhausting search, he was never found. It is believed that he perished in the cold winter of 1893, along with his donkey and load of coconuts.

This valley, the Snow Palm Valley, is believed to represent the remnants of the coconut growth that occurred after the poor Hawaiian's demise. This unique palm tree (Blanca Cocos Nucifera) has adapted to the cold by imbibing King Salmon oxifermones and grows only in this valley in Alaska.

Because of the dangerously rugged terrain and the wild nocturnal beasts inhabiting the lost valley, this photo had to be taken during daylight hours. Fortunately, the moon was in synchronous orbit so as to assist the backlighting of the delicate palms as you can see.

I, and the people of Alaska, wish to thank bluesheep for the challenge to find the lost palms. Without this challenge, the Snow Palm Valley may have been lost forever.

So as to preserve the delicate palms in the Snow Palm Valley the location of this site has been purposely misplaced on Google Maps.
