Northern Exposure

The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Thank you to all those crazy nutters who left comments yesterday. I think you are all mad, but wonderful. However I have now realised we are all trapped in a virtual asylum for the photographically insane.

Ach, well.... there are a lot worse places to be.

Anyway, back to the weather.

Been wild and beautiful and cold and windy and white out and sunshine. On our island we've just got a dusting of icing sugar to make it pretty. So we headed off to visit our friend who lives in the far wild west of the Mainland (that's the biggest of the Orkney islands to those not in the know). As we got further inland and onto higher ground it all got a bit wild and wooly. Drifting snow and driving winds made it all look wonderful but a wee bit intimidating.

Stopped in Kirkwall to stock up on provisions and by the time we got a couple of miles to the east of the town there were big sections of the road covered in drifts. We decided it was a bad idea, we would probably get to Birsay but we may well not have got back home. So we did an about turn. By the time we got back to Burray the sun was shining and there was hardly any snow.

The day continued with bursts of blizzards whilst we ate cake and watched Ben Hur.
