Bellbird (korimako)

Still no definitive answer on yesterday's bird - still awaiting expert consideration - but I have no trouble identifying today's bellbird.

I love bellbirds - I think its the contrast between their beautiful song and how mean the bird looks with its hooked beak and beady eye. Their green feathers can make them pretty hard to spot so I although I often hear them I don't so often see them and that makes me pretty pleased when I get a decent photo of one.

This chap was feeding on nectar in the beech trees up the Matakitaki Valley. There were waxeyes, fantails and bellbirds about up there - well, those are the ones I saw. There were definitely others I heard but I don't know what they were.
