Thursday 19 April 2012: Tauranga Bay
This morning Kiwilizzie suggested we go for lunch at The Bay House (which has recently re-opened) just south of Westport. It sounded like a great idea to me so she picked me up and off we went - beat working anyway.
You couldn't ask for a more impressive setting for a cafe. Wonderful vistas out over Tauranga Bay towards Cape Foulwind. After lunch we went down to the beach and took photos of seascapes, sea birds, rocks and surfers.
They get good waves here at the bay but there are a lot of rocks and islands which break the waves up and make their surf runs quite short. It must be tricky surfing with all the rocks and islets in the way.
In this shot you can just make out a fishing boat heading out from behind the island to cross behind the surfer.
