Wednesday 2 May 2012: Flying hoopoe

On my way back from the garden this evening I made a little detour to look for something interesting to blip in the vineyards or in the village, and saw two hoopoes below me in the vines. I've never had much luck with catching them on camera, even when we had a pair nesting in the eaves of the next-door house, so I grabbed the camera and just did what I could. This much cropped image was the best of a blurry lot, but I liked the way you can see the patterns on the wings. And there's a second one just visible in the bottom left corner. Last year I managed a shot of one on the roof of a mazet - here, but Interrupted light takes much better bird shots than I ever will.
