Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Saturday, April 25, 2015 -- Darla & Edgar

This morning we received a text from our friends Les & Jody, asking if we wanted to have lunch together today. We had not seen them since the last time we had lunch together on Thursday, December 4th, because they've been at their vacation house in Florida since the day after Christmas, and when they arrived home a month ago, we were are our little vacation shack on California's Central Coast. So "yes" we wanted to have lunch with them.

While we were in the restaurant with Les & Jody,  Darla & Edgar walked in with their three kids. We have not seen all of them in a long time. We've known Darla since she was a youngster. She is somewhere in the same age range as our daughter. We all went to the same church together back then. I'm not sure that we've ever met their kids, and currently Edgar is our "pool guy."  So Mr. Fun tends to see Edgar about once a week when Edgar is in our backyard working his wonder on our pool, which sometimes can be quite a task to make look beautiful because we live adjacent to a large wilderness area (that used to be a golf course).

Anyway, later in the day Darla posted this photo on her Facebook page and I snagged it to included it here in my journal. The two of them have been married 13 years and Mr. Fun enjoyed the delight of officiating at their wedding all those years ago, and the wedding was held on a "celebration boat" while cruising through the Newport Harbor. It was a lovely experience seeing many of the residences and businesses that we usually see from the street, but then from the water. The ceremony was fun, the bride was beautiful, and the dinner afterward was delicious. I remember being impressed because it was a grand way to have a captive audience at a wedding. No one could leave until the boat docked late that evening. We've been to way too many weddings & receptions that clear out as soon as the meal concludes and I'm sure that is disappointing for the newly married couple who have spent lots of money to have a celebration.

Then this evening our friends, Scot & Peg,  phoned to ask if we wanted to meet them at 8:30 at a restaurant a couple miles from our home because they had a friend whose band would be there doing music this evening. So of course we went. It was fun. The food was good; the music was very good, and it was more than good to be with our friends again.

This has been a good Saturday.
