Pilgrim's Way

Pilgrim's way stretches from mainland to The Holy Island; it was an old low tide walk, trodden by pilgrims seeking out the priory and the Christian centre during the golden age of Northumbria.
The sticks mark out the safe path.

" For with the flow and ebb, it's style

Varies from continent to isle

Dry shood o'er sands, twice everyday,

The pilgrims to the shrine find way .

Twice every day the waves efface

Of staves and sandalled feet the trace "

( Sir Walter Scott )
