Life's Little Moments

...It makes you wonder...

I could have blipped Mimsy, looking overjoyed at my return, but I kept coming back to this image because it intrigued me. Not that it is especially good technically, taken on the fly with my iPhone, but more because it made me curious. You see, this young man doesn't really fit the "homeless" profile. He's rather young, for starters - maybe in his 20's or 30's. And he was relatively well-groomed. And he didn't have that tattered look about him that many homeless have. But there was an air of sadness to him. Do you see it? And it made me wonder - why was he on 9th Avenue at 8 this morning, apparently asleep against a shop wall? Did he fall on sudden hard times? Was he kicked out by a girl/boyfriend? Did he just have too much to drink last night and end up here? I'll never know, but I wonder...

This is part of what entrances me about NYC. There are truly a "million stories in the naked city." I put a small assortment of shots in Folio that I took yesterday and this morning - have a look if you'd like. You won't see any of the normal touristy sights - you'll see my NY which is the grittier, more human, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant NY. This quick trip with my iPhone has made me want to plan several days in the city with a proper camera to just walk around and take pictures. Since I've always loved fall in the city, perhaps I will plan it for then. I am itching to visit some of my favorite neighborhoods and satisfy my hankering for street photography.

But in the meantime, expect a return to the mystical creatures of my backyard starting tomorrow! And, yes, I suspect a hummingbird or two will sneak into my journal soon...

Thanks very much for all your comments on my mystery woman yesterday - I am glad that so many of you were as intrigued as I was! Funny thing is that I never saw her face or any more of her than those legs and those crazy, gorgeous shoes! I am curious to hear what TeeJay's students make of her story...

Happy Thursday, Blippers . And before I sign off, I want to say a very BIG Congrats to my friend Lorenzo on reaching 500 Blips today. It was Lorenzo who introduced me to Blip - thanks my friend!

Note: I decided to replace the original image with a b/w version because I thought it worked better. Same image, just different processing.
