Gillipaw's Journal

Hollywood and Highland Center, Los Angeles

Part of the massive Babylon scene set from the D.W. Griffith's film Intolerance, which has been re-created to scale within this entertainment and shopping complex. The famous "Hollywood" sign on the hills beyond can just be seen from the viewing area at the bottom of the shot if you click on "large".

We had a full day in the area, taking in the stars on the Walk of Fame, visiting the Dolby (formerly known as Kodak) theatre where the Academy Awards are presented, Grauman's Egyptian and Chinese Theatres, the hand and foot prints of celebrities outside the Chinese Theatre. Finished off the day at El Capitan theatre where all the Disney films are premiered. We saw "Frankenweenie", which included a stunning light show before the screening.

It's not everyday that you emerge from a tube station to be met by Marilyn Monroe posing with her bodyguards, Spiderman sitting on a water hydrant and Darth Vader in a commanding position along the street. So many others famous landmarks in this part of town, it's like being on a film set.
