Watsonville Brillante

Brainchild of local artist and teacher Kathleen Crocetti, this massive public art project will eventually include over 12,000 square feet of mosaic murals, transforming this six story parking garage into a vibrant depiction of the history and culture of the neighboring city of Watsonville. The local community voted on the designs for the images, which were then executed by volunteers and installed by a local tile company. These first two panels, El Cielo and The Strawberry Picker, were drafted by artist Juan Fuentes, who grew up here, and reflect the agriculture of the area. Covid has slowed the project down a bit, but it’s coming along and I hope to have more pictures of it someday.  If Kathleen has her way, there won’t be a blank surface left in the county. I’ve documented other projects she has spearheaded around town, working with middle school kids to beautify walls, bridges and staircases.
