First Poppy

The first of my perennial Poppies unfurled this morning, petals crinkled as only they do.

This has been the first day this year, that I've felt entirely comfortable in short sleeves. For once, that irritating cold wind was missing. The day would have been a joy but the law of sod set in.

I made an unusual day time visit to W. and promised the dogs a long walk on route home. The walk lasted no more than a few minutes. Maera dropped one, as dogs do, but it was bright blue. Where the blazes had she picked up rat bait!

Needless to say the dogs were bundled back into the car and straight to the vet. Of course it had to be Friday rush hour and the trip which should only take twenty minutes took about two hours. My bank is now £93.58 lighter and Maera is, for the second time in her life, on Vitamin K1.

At 12 weeks old Maera managed to eat four or five blocks, which I'd stored in the shed before buying the pup, totally forgetting it's existence before it came out of her backside. She was so tiny and it was a very worrying time for the amount she'd ingested. This time, she has had not more than a single block which, given the amount, means I've less reason for concern, but she still needs the medication to be sure that the active ingredients, which cause hemophilia and consequent bleeding, don't affect her.

Back to the vets in a fortnight and another bill. Fortunately she is insured!

I have back blipped this.
