It was a VERY hot day .......

...... in PA!!
Pittsburgh PA, that is!
In the mid nineties (around 33C) and very humid but wow, what a fabulous city ...... the first time I have been here although I have been to Pennsylvania a couple of times before.

This photo was taken from the West End-Elliott Lookout and shows 4 of the 446 bridges in the city (thought to be a world record number for any city).

Pittsburgh is known as The Steel City (as well as the City of Bridges) and is one of the few cities in the US to include the letter H on the end of the "burg" - it was named after British statesman William Pitt and founded in November 1758. The locals have their own dialect and the people who speak this dialect are known as "Yinzers". To discover more fascinating facts take a look at Mr Wiki ..... - I read the whole lot and hope to come back here one day to do some serious sightseeing and more photography. (When I get back I will post some more photos on flickr and in my blipfolio)

If you look large you may spot the bonus birdie !!!!!!!! (as well as all the traffic and a lovely huge fountain).

Thank you for all the lovely comments on the recent feathery blips - could not hope to match them so have gone for something completely different :-)) ............ and it's sooc aside from a panoramic crop!

This could not be more different from my journal entry for this date last year in Alaska!!! - please take a look if you have the time.
