A Cemetery Scene

When you first enter the national cemetery near our city, you notice 2 things. Row after row of flying flags, and the whiteness and the starkness of hundreds (or thousands) of grave markers.

Today, two different kinds of white.

1. A fishing bird. IT'S A GIANT WHITE EGRET! I thought it was nesting on the pond, so I parked my van to investigate. I was wrong. No nest. He/she flew off. No pictures.

2. This little white costumed teddy bear. It wasn't near any headstones, but it was near the small wall vaults where they place soldiers who have been cremated.

The scene starts the mind a-wandering. Was it placed there by a youngster who has lost a mother or a father? Or lost a favorite aunt or uncle? Or...perhaps the deceased just liked teddy bears?

Regardless...the bear and the artificial flowers added some color to the whiteness.
