Bumper crop!

This single jar contains almost our entire crop of onions.

Ok, we didn't plant a huge amount as we were experimenting with small amounts of different veggies to find out which grew best in our new veg beds. But I did think the amount we had would do us for more than one pizza with red onions, one pot of chilli and one jar of pickles.

What, happend... rabbits!!!

Until this year we have had no problem with the little fluffy tailed neighbours of ours. They wander out in the evening and munch the grass and never ate even the juiciest of lettuce or tender shoots of flowers. They were only interested in grass, grass, grass.

Last year however, there was an outbreak of myximatosis and a lot of the rabbits were killed by it. In theory this should mean less rabbits. But there has been a population explosion this year. I guess it's nature's way of regressing the balance.

So this year we've had loads of baby rabbits munching on things they don't normally touch. One of which was the tops off our onions. The didn't actually eat the onions just chopped the tops off, I wouldn't have minded as much if they did eat at least part of the bulb. Once the tops were cut of the onions stopped growing and some started to rot. So we were left with about 400g of onions. How pathetic is that?

The strange thing is, growing beside the onions are a whole load of carrots and the furry fiends never even sniffed at them. Which begs the question... what's up doc?

Sorry, couldn't resist!
