Tonto

Today, my 144th blipday, was the day of my first blip encounter (I'm not counting encounters with Imp, which are frequent but not frequent enough...) Given that Edinburgh is crawling with blippers, I'm surprised it has taken so long. It's a cliché to say that Edinburgh is a village, but it's true.

There have been near misses in the past:

I blipped Scobes in March, though I didn't know who I had blipped until several hours after the event...

Imp and I were spotted by caffeine on Sunday, but we didn't spot her (no idea what she looks like) and she didn't blip us (she didn't have her camera with her)...

I have seen StevieFish walking along Rose Street and wingpig crossing Lothian Road, but I didn't catch either of them with camera or greeting...

I recently discovered that toadally is a neighbour of a good friend of mine, so we may well have met in the past, though neither of us can recall such a meeting...

So, at lunchtime today I was wandering up Lothian Road, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a Canon DSLR being held down at his side by some guy. As I raised my eyes from camera to face, it was clear that he had already clocked me...

Him: '"sleepyduck!"

Me: "Tonto?"

(Incidentally, it must surely be the first time two people have greeted each other thus.)

We didn't blip each other, didn't even discuss it, as we both already had potential blips in the bag. But we did have a nice wee chat.

It was an honour and a pleasure to meet you, Mr McDuff. I look forward to next time :-)

(For the avoidance of doubt, that is not a picture of Tonto. It's a picture of a random woman on Castle Terrace.)
