Living in the urban sprawl on the borders of Sandwell and Birmingham, Jess, our Border Collie-cross, gives me the excuse of a daily work around Warley Woods. An unexpected gem of the West Midlands, this 100-acre parkland was laid out 216 years ago by Humphry Repton, the landscape designer. Now a well-kept community-run park and nine-hole golf course, it is the green lung of the community and a haven of peace and enjoyment for thousands who seek rhythm and beauty.
