Born in Ireland to parents of Scots/English parentage, I was raised in Ireland (Co. Wicklow and Co. Dublin) and the Highlands of Scotland (Argyll); moved to New Zealand with my husband when I was 25 and then to Bahrain ten years later.  We remained there, bringing up our two daughters now aged 28 and 20, though we had a home in Nelson, New Zealand.

I've enjoyed taking photos since I received my first camera when I was about seven, and have always footled around with descriptive writing; I've earned my living writing from time to time. Between Feb 2015 and Nov 2016 I took a Diploma in Writing for Creative Industries at the local polytech, which I enjoyed hugely.

After 16 years of living in the Middle East and travelling around, I came to Nelson in January 2012 with our younger daughter. The political situation in Bahrain at the time was unstable and we were concerned about her schooling there (in hindsight, I'm not sure that that was the right move, but there we are!) This resulted in ours becoming an 'archipelago' family with my husband in Bahrain with visits to New Zealand; Daughter No. 1 now living in Wellington and Daughter No. 2 and me in Nelson, with visits to Bahrain from time to time. Thus it's a rather 'Here and There' journal, hence my blip name. It'll be interesting to see where 2019 takes me, as Daughter No. 2  finished with school in 2017 and now lives Far, Far Away at the bottom of the South Island. I'll probably be in Bahrain more.....

The combined pet tally for our two households (New Zealand and Bahrain) currently stands at three cats, one rabbit, a parrot and several fish. Only the fish and two of the cats were actually 'planned.'
