Cholla At Twilight

The Chainfruit Cholla (Opuntia fulgida) is a dichotomy of sorts.
On the good side it is a very beautiful desert cactus. On the bad side it is very dangerous. The beauty is not very evident in this image, so take it from me, it is one of the loveliest cacti around. But the evil side is very mean. Each little needle, 1- 2 inched long, has a hook on the end, can't see it but it's there alright. So when you get one in you, the whole clump of needles come with it. Can't just pull them out either, remember, their hooked on the end. A pair of pliers is really helpful! I've been gotten several times, as well as my dogs. But we all lived to tell about it.
Anyway, hope I didn't freak you out too much.
They really are quite beautiful, in an evil sort of way!!!
