Trucking on

One week after the quake, many are working hard to repair the infrastructure in Christchurch. While the focus of the media is on the CBD, huge efforts are also being made in the outer suburbs, particularly in the eastern suburbs, such as here in Aranui. There are still large areas of flooding and piles of silt and many roads and bridges remain closed. Most of these trucks are probably going to and from The Bridge Street Bridge which provides one of the few access points into South Brighton. This is just around the corner from my place, and while I appreciate their hard work, at times the rumble of the heavy trucks can sound like yet another aftershock and with frayed nerves, they can make one freeze for a second, wondering whether to dive for cover ;)
