Purv-erse

Mr Purves Lamp Shop, St Stephen St, Edinburgh. I had quite a surreal walk through Stockbridge today when I turned along St Stephen Street and found myself back in time. I've somehow never really noticed the ancient and unlikely businesses along there. Well, here's oil lamp specialist Mr Purves' shop, open on Saturdays only. Worth a snap I think!

Otherwise at work, quite surreal as I was subjected to a "believe your own hype" session from senior management. I forced myself into dispassionate journalist mode and slipped away at the break.

Then this evening was another "now or never" West Barns Gala meeting. If we don't get more involvement from parents the existing committee have had enough after decades of service. Louise and Lorna came along and were brimming with enthusiasm, let's hope we can rustle up support for next week, which really is D-Day.

Louise's daughter went to Scouts with my son whilst we were at the Gala meeting and came out brimming as well.

So, a day of traditions - Purves, Gala, Scouts - and surreal encounters. Long may (most of) it continue.
