They Left Their Mark

The Waimakariri bridge, often Blipped by my Mum, was commissioned by William Rolleston when he was Superintendent of the Canterbury Provincial Council in 1876 and completed the following year.

These sailors from Governors Bay near Lyttelton, were the graffiti artists of their day - most of their signatures are carefully chiselled with serifs and the latest date I saw was 1914.
