Allotment

Following on with my challenge to document the allotment - this is my second month. Since then I have dug in willow whips to line the new path that has been built around all the allotments. Eventually I aim to weave them into a fence. The cold frame, made out of old windows now shelters sweet pea and leek seedlings. My neighbour has taken the huge old wooden compost bin which we can share and the newly dug areas are ready for potato and pulses. The onions are fattening up well and the fruit bushes are pushing out leaves and have large flower buds. To the right are new rhubarb sticks which are a brilliant colour in the sun. The asparagus bed has received another load of compost to cover the seaweed and beyond the wire frame (ready for the sweet peas) the globe artichockes are throwing up new leaves. Today was mostly fairly overcast and this short burst of sun this morning was a bonus but the ground is incredibly dry for the NE winds contain no moisture.
