A sporting day

We had a busy day of sport and outdoor activity and I'm worn out now. So just going to blip and then have a power nap.

Early start in the bitter cold easterly wind for our golf competition. Playing with my son Robin in (this is a golf bit as I know his grandad reads the blips) the qualifying competition for this years pairs knock out. Big field and top 16 to qualify. Robin managed to forget his wooly hat, have sore legs from playing football and hands too cold to hold the club properly. Luckily I played well for 14 holes until the sun came out and Robin woke up to close things out with a birdy on 17 and net birdy on 18. Our better ball 66 (off 3/4 hcap) should be easily good enough for qualification... but we had to rush off to get to rugby.

So Robin who had woken up by this time and was much heartened to hear that England had pulled off an unexpected victory over South Africa in the cricket world cup was rapidly refuelled and dropped off at Stroud Rugby Club for his afternoon match against Minety. This is a new competition and unknown opposition but sunny Sunday afternoons seem to suit the Stroud boys and they played as well as I've ever seen them and ran out 41-5 victors.

I had a bit of fun with the shooting rapid fire sequences of pictures with the camera set to AI Servo where it continuously refocusses even with the shutter button depressed. I've not tried this before much and was very pleased today with the clarity of the action sequences I managed to capture.

This shot shows Robin just failing to score mid way through the second half after a long mazy run half the length of the pitch. The he's just handed off the tackler and looks like he's broken the tackle only to be scragged by the lad getting his fingers tangled into Rob's sock. He came crashing down just short of the 5 metre line but Stroud continued the move and scored and few moments later.

So now he's all worn out and scarred with stud marks across his back (to go with his sore legs from football and damaged fingers from rock climbing) and off to bed early to heal, even before the England highlights come on the TV.
