This formidable lady appearing on a sign at Bruntsfield Links is Miss Christina Kay. The reason for it being there is that young Muriel Spark would walk across the Links on the way to school at James Gillespies High School. Miss Kay was an eccentric and well-liked teacher who became the model for Miss Jean Brodie - troublesome teacher at Marcia Blane School for Girls. She, of course, had a "Prime"!
