Kaddish

This morning was my aunt's funeral but no sooner had I lifted my head from the pillow than I realised that the dreaded migraine had returned and there was no way that I was going to be able to make the journey let alone make it through the service. So I stayed at home and quietly paid my respects in my own way and said a little prayer or two for her.

Thinking on her reminded me of this book 'Kaddish' that has been kicking around my bookcase only half read for a number of years. Kaddish is a Jewish mourner's prayer and I first came across it when looking at Judaism as part of my Masters in Theology. This book is one man's story of his experience of the ritual of reciting the prayer daily for the 11 months after his father's death. I was fascinated at the time but being me it was a big book, I had several books on the go at the time and I got distracted.....

Perhaps today with the beginning of Lent just around the corner is as good a time as any ti pick this book up again and give it another go!

Glorified and sanctified be God's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen.
May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity.
Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen.
May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us
and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
