Part of my employment time, and non-work life, is spent fixing things. When folk find you can do repairs, there's never any shortage of work. Especially if you're a soft touch and have difficulty saying "No". If I charged the going rates for the time spent, my life would so much quieter...

Alas this piece of electronics was "beyond economic repair", though it had been little used. The gold plated contacts show negligible wear. Suspect the User has misused it, and blown the main processing chip. Fortunately for them, it wasn't expensive, and a few parts of this can be salvaged for other repairs.
