International Women's Day

Today we celebrated International Women's day by having a girls only lunch break in the library, this was a lovely opportunity to chat to the 42 girls that came through the door. There was a mixture of reading, choosing books, drawing, chatting and homework taking place. A number of the girls, as they left, asked if we could have a girls only day again as they had enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Oxfam have been asking people to share stories about inspirational women they know and has been celebrating the achievements of women around the world. A wonderful quote from the Oxfam website says:

Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.
Teach a woman to fish....
......she'll teach her friends, set up a business, and pretty soon the whole village is on the mend.
