Cherry plum

After yesterday's blackthorn here is today's white-flowered hedgerow shrub: cherry plum prunus cerasifera. It flowers earlier than blackthorn, grows taller and has bigger, prettier flowers, but isn't as common. This one near the car park at work has probably been planted; these days native species are often planted in public places like car parks.

There is a third white-flowering tree around here, wild cherry, which will come out next month.
