Sori

No, not apologizing! Fern spores are contained in sporangia which are borne on the leaf surface (in this case underneath) in clusters called sori (singular sorus).

There are about a thousand sori on the bottom of this segment of fern. You can do the math how many there are in your neighbourhood.
