Eric Gill Stone Carving, Lancashire

Eric Gill is a widely-revered figure from the early 20th century arts and crafts movement, with strong associations with Lancashire via Morecambe's Midland Hotel, which incorporates several significant works. This crucifix detail is part of a very little known Gill carving for a headstone in the graveyard adjacent to St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Claughton On Brock. The headstone was a favour for the Reeves family, commemorating Mary Reeves, who happened to be the mother of one of Gill's mistresses.
