Large wood on the North Fork Nooksack River

This is a close up of a vertical member for an engineered logjam (ELJ) on the North Fork Nooksack River in Whatcom County, Washington constructed by the Nooksack Indian Tribe. This ELJ was constructed to encourage flow within a side channel of the river and also promote forested island growth. So far, the project has been very successful and the side channel is now very productive spawning habitat for salmon.
