Gadwall

It was my birthday today, and what better way to spend it than a bit of birding and a sausage butty at Potteric Carr? It was fairly quiet, the highlights being a very showy (but too distant for a decent shot) Kingfisher at Piper Marsh, where an unexpected day-flight bat was an unexpected bonus (after consideration I'm erring on Daubenton's but not sure).

This Gadwall was doing the most posing, so it today's shot!

[EDIT - the Potteric Carr website is tentatively IDing the bat as a Noctule, which was my first thought before I chickened out and plumped for Daubenton's...]
