Welcome to Steel City

This photo, taken in Sheaf Square, Sheffield, is the sight that greets you when you arrive in the city by train. It's one of my favourite places, partly because it always looks different -by day and night, quiet or busy, sun, rain or as today, fog. Maybe not its most attractive incarnation, but I hope I've captured some of the impact of this huge curving fountain. Wherever you go in Sheffield, you can be in no doubt that you are in Steel City and over the last few years, the city centre regeneration has managed to improve and unify some of the disparate and unattractive areas. My favourite view of the city centre - from the tram stop above the other side of the station - really shows how it has come together. But that's a blip for another day. Here's a wider view of Sheaf Square
