Doing Things Differently

In the midst of the murkiest day there will always be a bright spot. And you can't get much brighter than the brilliant black and white of an Avocet.

This pair appeared on Boomerang Island, in front of "the hide" this afternoon. You can see a close-up of them flying away HERE. Not only a Year Tick for me, (now up to 103) but this iconic bird, the emblem of the RSPB, is within twenty minutes of my home!

Until a few years ago, you had to travel many miles to get a glimpse of this beautiful wader. RSPB Titchwell in Norfolk and RSPB Blacktoft Sands near the Humber were, and still are, prime sites. You couldn't even find it in the UK until the 1940's.

Despite the quality of the picture, (taken at 120 metres, in abysmal light) for me, this is a special blip!!
