Stay of Execution

Today at the Capitol, Witness to Innocence gave a presentation. They are a group that campaigns against the death penalty and helps exonerees transition back into life in the "outside" world.

There were four gentlemen who had been wrongly convicted of murder and had, at one time, been on death row before being exculpated.

This man's name was Albert Burrell, and he spent 13 years on death row in Louisiana for a crime he did not commit.

The other exonerees present were:

Clarence Brandley, 10 years on death row in Texas

Shujaa Graham, three years on death row in California

Ron Keine, two years on death row in New Mexico.

All were found innocent, and Mr. Keine had been framed for a murder that had actually been committed by a police officer.

It has been an emotional couple of days around the Capitol, but I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had thus far for anything in the world.
