Alison Kinnaird's Palmsong, Scottish Parliament

On a visit to the parliament to observe a debate on chronic pain, I took the opportunity to blip this amazing sculpture by Alison Kinnaird.

Palmsong combines glass art with music from the Scottish Harp.

The notes of the melody 'Palmsong', composed and performed by the artist, were fed into a computer to sample the sound waves. These produced the interlacing patterns that the artist engraved onto the glass panels. The patterns combine with the human figure to represent the emotion in the music.

The melody is played on harps, cello and on glass itself.
