the other old city...

went to the old city this morning to catch some Holi colors...we were confused regarding the exact date of Holi - today or tomorrow...the festivals in India are driven by the lunar calendar...moreover, different communities celebrate it on different dates as per their own customs and traditions...not having any definitive plan in mind, we decided to check with the locals and figure out the best place with maximum possible action...we were told that though the celebrations was being celebrated for a few days now, the main celebration and riot of colors will be tomorrow. I've been to the old city many times earlier but each time we end up at or around the Charminar or the mosque. Today we were in part of the old city that is primarily populated by the marwaris - communities hailing mostly from Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh. Holi being one of their main festivals, they celebrate it with great joy and spirit. We spent about an hour or so in the small street, exploring and talking to the friendly and smiling people...the place was *alive* early in the morning...many people out on the streets doing their daily chores or just sitting idly and chatting...the whole setup made the part of the city where we live in look quite moron-ish. We got an invite for tomorrow morning.
