Grim Business

My fourth short play debuted this night and was put on as a staged reading by Vanier College Productions - an amateur troop of enthusiastic and talented students at York University in Toronto. It was performed as a radio-style play twice in their Radio 10 Live Festival April 29-30 at the Fred Thury Theatre. The 3-day festival (to May 1st) featured five short plays performed in the style of old-time radio dramas. No sets, no pre-recorded sounds.

Here's my summary in YFILE.

"Grim Business by Edward Fenner, directed by David Wray and Ashton Vetter. Korrie Upton, a CEO kidnapped by ex-employees of his robbed and ruined companies, is put on trial for crimes against humanity and against nature. The court is not legitimate but the stakes are a matter of life and death. Grim Business was runner-up for York's 2008 Kent Haworth Playwriting Prize."

My first play in this competition, The Atomic Lunchbox, went nowhere. Grim Business took runner-up in 2008. My second play, The Prodigal Father, won the Kent Haworth in 2006, my third play Fire Burial, co-won in 2007, and my latest play The Tesla Chronicles, won in 2009.

Back-blipped 20 March 2011.
