Fluvial wanderings

Middle Fork Nooksack - Ring Forest

I was doing some preliminary field work today on the Middle Fork Nooksack River near Demming, WA to support habitat restoration within the project area. Flows were good (low) and the weather was normal for the PacNW (rainy). This is a picture of a natural large wood (LWD) jam that is influencing flow patterns, migration of the channel, creating a scour hole, and providing cover for salmonids.
