100 Acre Walk

Took a walk along National Cycle Route 51 from Priory Country Park to Meadow Lane by the side of 100 Acre Field and lake this morning before work. The birds are too far away to photograph but it was a joy to see good numbers and species.

The lake is fairly devoid of bird-life near to the cycle track but large numbers of birds congregate at the far end. Species seen included Greylags, Canadas, BHGs, Gt Crested Grebe, Oystercatchers, Gadwall, Mallards, Coots, Tufted Duck, Lapwing, Wigeon, Redshank, Mute Swan and Cormorant.

On my way back to the car I stopped a while on the old railway bridge over the Great Ouse. While standing on the bridge I saw a Mink swimming into the main river from the cut. The Mink headed into the reeds and this Water Rail popped out!

So we have a bit of a scratchy image of a distant Water Rail.
