The Yew Tree - The Battlefield Band

It was a very pleasant Saturday today. After a long lie we headed to Penicuik to meet Evanna and drom pff Cammy's thirteenth birthday card and present. MAddy didn't come with us though as she's not been well all week. After that it was back home for lunch then out again. We went to Aberlady to see my dad and Anne so Mads could get her pocket money from Grandad before we go away for the Easter holidays.

Then it was off up near ORmiston to Chris and Lizzies for a lovely dinner followed by a Kinect session.

On route to theirs we stopped by the remains of Ormiston Hall to get a blip. Two of Roz's school friends lived right next to the Great Yew when she grew up. I'd seen the Fortingall one before but not this one. This one, despite being a couple of thousand years younger is in a better state as it is more remote so hasn't been cut back as much.

As for the song, my dad used to be quite good friends with Brian who wrote it but he didn't quite get his facts right. For starters it's a bit more than a mile from Pencaitland and secondly the only sea in the direction you head out of Pencaitland is the Irish Sea. Still a good song though but perhaps a bit folk-ey for some.
