Scrawny Old Man

Pyrenees snowshoe 4

This didn't work out as expected at all!
Instead of the anticipated idyllic walk over the col to the next refuge under deep blue skies, it snowed all day - having snowed half the day before and all night.
Even if we'd had the blue skies, there was too much snow and the avalanche risk was far too high to go over the col, so Karl took us on a walk round the cirque - not that we actually saw much of it - and back to the same refuge (and the same 'wine').
But in its way it was as good as anything we could hope for, and gave us a real sense of adventure.
Karl said there are 3 sorts of adventure - adventure, high adventure and misadventure. For us it was high adventure but under his expert leadership and flawless judgment we never felt there was any danger of it becoming misadventure.
