....Terry knows about.........

lots of stuff really.

First round of the Handicap Knockout Cup tonight, versus Stopes Tavern and we have to give them, 5 points start.

Evening didn't start well, no questions, no reserved tables and no food. One of the barstaff had put the questions in a stupid place behind the bar so they thought we were playing away. We sorted it and thanks to Mike the barman we got tables, food and only started 10 minutes late.

Opening score -5 - 0

Round 1 won 6-4
Total 1-4
Round two Individuals Ann and I blanked but Terry picked up a bonus and we won 5-4
Total 6-8
Round 3 thanks to knowledge of amendments to the US constitutuion we won the round 10-4
Total 16-12 and handicap overcome in short order!
Round 4 8 pointer Stopes blanked and we settled for a safe 4
Half time 20-12

Nice relaxing nicotine break and beer re-fill and back in to face what must surely be a second half onslaught.

Round 5 My knowldege of obscure scientific equipment...the Leyden Jar.. helped us to draw the round 3-3
Total 23-15

Round 6 the 4 point questions and surely the attack comes now, but the opponents played cautiously and the round eneded up 6-9
Total 29-24
Round 7 .another blank for me and Ann but Phil picked up a bonus and we ended up 5-5
Total 34-29
Final round and a misspent youth reading Marvel comics got us our only 2 points on Steve Rogers alter ego (Captain America) and fortunately Stopes did just as badly, so a 2-2 draw

Final score 36-31 ( 41 -31 without the handicap)

So 1/4 final next week...only I can't play...I'm at a really important meeting.....and it's against the Cricket Club who pipped us for the title..and we get a 5 point start. They beat us in December by 18 points thanks to some very skewed questions and their usual stalling tactics to gain extra thinking time.........We beat them last week by 3 points thanks to balanced questions and a strict insistence that questions must be answered in 45 seconds as per league rules. Should be interesting.. all we need are balanced questions and a strong question master..........oh, wait ...it's the Boss!

I was going to blip my day in "solitary" with 9 very reluctant 16 year olds battering them into completeing their coursework....if we'd lost I would have done....then you'd have been sorry...there's nothing funny about an old guy forcing stroppy teenagers to do something they don't want to!
